This is a mockup app that is designed to provide the citizens of San Francisco a way to help clean and pick up litter and other garbage on the streets. Users can either take a photo of the trash to report it or they can pick up the trash and notify others that the task is completed.
User Research, Branding, UI/UX Design
For a long time, San Francisco has been a city known for its beauty and high-end living. Due to several outcomes, the last few years have left the city with a lot of trash. Unfortunately, words like dirty and gross are now associated with the city of San Francisco, which needs to change.
Coming up with a new app idea comes with a few challenges like limited research and resources. There is very little competiton for this kind of app, which is great but you don't get to see what works and what doesn't before hand.
It is pretty common knowledge of why the city is dirty but I needed to understand what has been hindering San Francisco citizens from helping to keep the city clean. Here are a few things I learned from my research:
Lack Of Time
Focused On Certain Areas
Limited Info Given
01.
Allow users to report the trash they see.
02.
Prioritize the map of the marked trash locations.
03.
Focus on content strategy to inform users.
Pinpointing a target market and coming up with personas was extremely helpful in understanding what the main focus of the app should be. I was able to do questionnaires and find out how to make the app more engaging and exciting for users.
Katie recently moved to San Francisco and wanted to find service opportunities in the city and she found out about U-Pick-Up. She likes the idea of giving back to the community on her own time.
Dave loves hiking and the outdoors and finds ways to help take care of the environment. He heard of U-Pick-Up and thought that was a good way that he could do his part while living in the city.
Layout was one of the biggest challenges I face while designing this app. I didn't know what the user flow should be. Creating the information architecture helped me visualize how the app could work and helped me organize my thought process.
These opening pages show the clean design of the logo, a representation of what the city of San Francisco can become.
When users open the app they will be able to see trash near their current location. Then they can go to the list and see if there's an opportunity to pick up some trash.
The profile will soon be updated to show how much impact users have had in their neighborhood and show other friends who are on the app, providing group service activities. If a user doesn't have time, they can add to the list of trash by taking pictures and describing where and when they saw the garbage.
